About Us
The School of Sustainable Engineering (SSE) was established in 2022 as the fourth School of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (CANS), University of Cape Coast. The establishment of the School aligns with the University’s strategic vision to advance the frontiers of quality education in Ghana and to leverage the Government of Ghana’s initiative to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education for national development.
The uniqueness of the School lies with its tailored academic programmes, which are driven by the concept of sustainability to promote sustainable development. In line with this, the School champions the application of engineering principles that foster positive social and economic development while mitigating the environmental impacts of resources extraction, construction and industrial manufacturing within the context of the circular economy. The delivery of the academic programmes is firmly grounded on practical and industry-oriented, problem-based training which is aimed at producing a cadre of technologically savvy engineers who can combine sound theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical skills for application in industry.
The School collaborates with industrial partners for curriculum development and delivery to ensure that students receive training that meets the real needs of industry. Our international partners also support with shared curriculum and delivery to acquaint the students with the international study environment and prepare them to be global engineers. Our strategic goal is to create a unique and specific identity for students who graduate from the engineering programmes as global professionals who can integrate technical and entrepreneurial skills for self-employment while addressing the issues of sustainability. The first cohort of students was admitted in the 2023/2024 academic year
