The following start-up academic programmes are offered in the various departments of the School:

Department of Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering 

Entry Requirements:

Post-Senior High School Candidates

  1. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): The candidate must have credit passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better. Three (3) of the six subjects must be core subjects (including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science), and three must be science-based elective subjects (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology or Crop Husbandry and Horticulture, Animal Husbandry) or three (3) technical elective subjects (Mathematics and Physics plus any of the following: Metal Works, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity and Building Construction).
  2. West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): The candidate must have credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better. Three (3) of the six subjects must be core subjects (including English Language, Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies), and three (3) must be science-based elective subjects (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology or Agriculture) or three (3) technical elective subjects (Mathematics and Physics plus any of the following: Metal Works, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity and Building Construction).

General Certificate of Education

Holders of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (obtained not more than three years before the time of application) must, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have, at least, passes in three (3) of the following science subjects (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology or Agriculture).

Higher National Diploma

Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agricultural, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering would be considered for admission and placed at Level 200 or Level 300 depending on the academic performance and the match between the HND courses and those in the BSc Agricultural Engineering programme. Where there is a good match, a minimum of Second-Class Upper Division is required for admission to level 300. Where the match is not good the candidate is admitted to Level 200.

Mature Applicants

  1. The candidate must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination. A certified copy of birth certificate is required. The date of issue of the birth certificate should not be less than five years from the date of the completion of the admission forms.
  2. The candidate must have G.C.E. “O” Level or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics. Candidates who do not have the required “O” Level/SSSCE/ WASSCE passes will be required to take Special Entrance Examination papers in the two subjects.
  3. The candidate must take the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination which consists of a General Paper for all candidates and an Aptitude Test. iv. Candidates who pass all papers in the Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations will be ranked and those who fall within the approved quota will be invited for interview.

Foreign Students

In the case of foreign students, their equivalent qualifications determined by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission shall be considered for admission in relation to the qualifications specified for local applicants. Click the link below

Department of Chemical and Renewable Energy Engineering 

Entry Requirements:

The University has four entry routes:

(a) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), Ghana

(b) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

(c) Foreign Qualifications that are internationally acceptable for admission into universities

(d) Mature Students’ Entrance Examination (Entry at Level 100)

(e) Professional certificates and tertiary level diplomas (Entry at Levels 200 and 300 depending on the assessment of the diploma or certificate).

The general admission requirements for the various entry routes are as follows:

Post-Senior High School Candidates

(i) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): The candidate must have credit passes (A – C) in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better. Three of the six subjects must be core subjects (including English Language, Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies), and three must be in electives (Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics). In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the Faculty.

(ii) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): The candidate must have credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better. Three of the six subjects must be core subjects (including English Language, Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies), and three must be in electives (Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics). In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the Faculty.

General Certificate of Education

Holders of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (obtained not more than three years before the time of application) must, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have, at least, three (3) passes in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Admission through Mature Students’ Entrance Examination

(i) The candidate must be at least 25 years old at the start of the Academic year. A certified copy of birth certificate is required. The date of issue of the birth certificate should not be less than five years from the date of the completion of the admission forms

(ii) The candidate must have G.C.E. “O” Level or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics. Candidates who do not have the required “O” Level/SSSCE/ WASSCE passes will be required to take Special Entrance Examination papers in the two subjects

(iii) The candidate must take the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination which consists of a General Paper for all candidates and an Aptitude Test. Candidates applying for programmes in Education will take an additional paper in Education

(iv) Candidates who pass all papers in the Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations will be ranked and those who fall within the approved quota will be invited for interview.

Professional Certificate and Tertiary Level Diploma

Holders The level of placement of professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holders will depend on the assessment of their certificates or diplomas in relation to the programme desired. The general guidelines are as follows:

(i) All professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holder’s must have either G.C.E. “O” Level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics

(ii) Professional Certificate Holders: The placement level of candidates will depend on assessment of their certificates by the relevant Faculty/School or Department

(iii) Holders of UCC (and affiliated institutions) diploma: A minimum of Second-Class Lower is required for admission to levels 200 or 300

(iv) Holders of diplomas awarded by other tertiary institutions: The relevant Faculty/School and Department will assess the curriculum content of the diploma in relation to the programme on a case-by- case basis

(v) HND Candidates: The level of placement of candidates will depend on the match between the content of the diploma and UCC programme. Where there is a good match, a minimum of Second Class Upper Division is required for admission to level 300. Where the match is not good the candidate is admitted to Level 200.

Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil, Chemical, Agricultural, or Mechanical Engineering, would be considered for admission and placed at Level 200 or Level 300 depending on the academic performance and the match between the HND courses and those in the BSc Water and Public Health Engineering programme. Where there is a good match, a minimum of Second-Class Upper Division is required for admission to level 300 otherwise. Where the match is not good the candidate may be admitted to Level 200. In either case, a candidate may be required to take some courses from the lower level(s).

Mature Applicants

  1. The candidate must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination. A certified copy of birth certificate is required. The date of issue of the birth certificate should not be less than five years from the date of the completion of the admission forms.
